Meet Chancy M., Certified Nursing Assistant
In the wake of personal tragedy, Chancy discovered a new path that not only reshaped her career but also restored her sense of purpose. After the death of her husband in December 2020, Chancy, who had devoted herself to caring for him during his illness, found herself at a crossroads.
A chance conversation with a young lady from her church introduced her to WorkSource. Despite Chancy’s initial hesitations about returning to education later in life, her friend from church didn’t take no for an answer and set up her application on the spot.
“I thought ‘I’m too old for school. I can’t do this.’”, Chancy admits. “But the encouragement from the program’s staff, particularly an advisor named Andrew, changed her perspective. He sat down with me, helped me through the initial challenges, and kept saying, ‘You can do this.’”
With newfound confidence, Chancy navigated through the program, overcoming her self-doubt and the emotional weight of her husband’s passing. The supportive environment at WorkSource, coupled with the dedication of its staff, propelled her forward. “Once I was encouraged by the people at the program, it was no holds barred from there,” she says.
Chancy not only completed the program but also excelled, earning certifications in CNA, phlebotomy, and EKG. Her success led to significant roles, first as a home healthcare provider, and now in the Cardiac Admit Recovery Unit at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
“This career has impacted me so much,” Chancy says. “I’ve met a lot of great people, and it restored my faith that I could be encouraged by anybody.”
Today, Chancy is financially stable, driving a Lincoln she takes pride in, and enjoys the admiration and support of her children, who see her as an inspiration. “Seeing the smiles on my kids’ faces, hearing them say, ‘Mom, you can do it!’—that’s amazing.”
